People who tell me they are “A Man of Their Word” tend to be some of the most dishonest people I meet. In my experience if you have to tell me you that you are a man or women of your word, then most likely you are anything but a man or women of your word.
I have found that people who keep their word really feel no great need to tell you they are honest and dependable because they are honest and dependable. They show people this every day with their actions. It is important to them to be perceived as an ethical and upstanding human being. People who lie tend to think they are always more important than the other person. They want to get theirs, and they are willing to do whatever it takes. The more someone tries to outwardly tell me they are honest, the less my expectations are for that person to be honest.
This concept is a simple one to understand, but harder to live by. If you say you are going to do something then do it. If you cannot do something then say you can’t do it. When you are asked a question, you tell the truth even if it is going to hurt. Do not steal, and do not cheat people. These are the basics that integrity ethics and integrity are built on. Your ethics and integrity for the most part determine the type of person you have chosen to be.
Now, I know we all commit to things at times with the best intentions and do not come through. This can happen, but not being able to meet a commitment you had sincerely hoped you would is not being dishonest. We all know what dishonest means don’t we? Well here it is straight from dictionary.com!

2. proceeding from or exhibiting lack of honesty; fraudulent: a dishonest advertisement.
How to Be Honest
Life is fairly simple, do what you say you are going to do. Just keep your word, don’t lie, and life will be much easier. You will keep your friends, your relationships will be so much better, and your business will grow because people will trust you and want to work with you. No one wants to work with someone who is dishonest or has ethics issues, and I can assure you word travels faster than you can possible imagine. Oh, one more thing. People are not going to tell you they have issues with your honesty or ethics, they are just not going to work with you! So if you are one of those people who isn’t exactly trustworthy or honest. People do realize it most the time, they are simply not telling you they know. The final point people who lie really do more damage to themselves than they do others in the end. For those of you who meet a higher moral code, I commend you. For those of you have issues with integrity and lie, there is always time to fix your mistakes. Just stop lying. Do it today, you will feel much relief and become a better person in the end.
